Why AI is involved

Flirt Mode is a voice app. When you start a session, you speak out loud to an AI character — a coffee shop cutie, a gym crush, a bookstore stranger. The AI plays the character and responds in real time. That requires your voice to be processed by an AI model as you speak.

There is no way to run a voice session without transmitting audio to the AI provider. This page explains exactly what happens to that audio.

Flirt Mode is not therapy, counselling or medical advice. It is an entertainment app for practice and building confidence.

What gets sent and when

  • During a session: your voice audio is streamed in real time to OpenAI's Realtime API over a secure WebRTC connection. The AI uses it to generate the character's spoken responses.
  • After a session ends: the connection closes. OpenAI may keep API data for up to 30 days solely to monitor for abuse, then deletes it.
  • For your coaching: the text transcript of the chat (what you and the character said) is sent to Google's Gemini API, which writes the feedback on your results screen.
  • If you create your own character: the character name you type is sent to OpenAI as part of the character's instructions for the call. We check it with an automated moderation filter before using it, and a name that fails the check isn't used. Please don't type a real person's name or your own. The traits, setting and face you pick are chosen from fixed options and don't include free text.
  • We never send: your name, email, contacts, location, or any data that identifies you as a person. The session is functionally anonymous from the AI provider's perspective.

What is stored, and what isn't

  • We never record or store your session audio.
  • We store a text transcript of each chat, linked to your anonymous account, for up to 30 days. It's used only for your Replay, for safety checks, and to review calls you report, and is then deleted automatically.
  • Before coaching, the transcript is checked with OpenAI's moderation service. Chats that break our content rules don't get coaching.
  • If you create a custom character, its settings (name, personality traits, where you met, flirt level, face choice, and the optional setup and goal choices you pick) are stored with your anonymous account until you delete your data with Settings → Delete My Data.
  • We keep a small progress summary with your anonymous account: your streak, the number of chats, and the three Replay reads (each a level from 1 to 4) for your last 30 chats. It has no audio or transcript text, and no AI provider receives it. It stays until you delete your data with Settings → Delete My Data.
  • We store the coaching feedback with your session for up to 30 days so you can see it.
  • If you leave "Characters remember me" on (Settings), the Replay also writes one short note about something you shared. It stays on your phone and is sent with your next chat with that character so the character's voice AI (OpenAI) can refer back to it, and it is stored with that chat's record. Characters never share notes. You can clear it in Settings or on the character's profile, or turn it off.
  • Apart from that note, each chat starts fresh.

To delete everything sooner, use Settings → Delete My Data in the app. To stop sending data to AI providers, use Settings → Turn Off AI Voice Chats.

AI providers

OpenAI Realtime API

Voice processing — real-time only

What it receives: live voice audio streamed from your device during a session, and the character's instructions, which include the character's name (for a character you created, the name you typed).

What it does: generates the AI character's spoken responses in real time.

Retention: up to 30 days, solely for abuse monitoring, then deleted (unless the law requires longer), per OpenAI's API data policy.

Training: your audio is not used to train OpenAI models.

Policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy

Google Gemini API

Coaching — after the session

What it receives: the text transcript of the chat and the scenario you picked. No audio, name, email or contact details.

What it does: writes the coaching on your results screen.

Retention: up to 55 days, solely to detect abuse, then deleted.

Training: transcripts are sent through Google's paid Gemini API, which does not use them to train Google's models.

Languages

Chats can be in 27 languages: English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, French, Hindi, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak, Croatian, Slovenian, Chinese (Traditional) or Thai. The app uses your iPhone's language by default, and you can change it in Settings → Language. That choice is stored only on your device.

  • The character speaks, and your speech is transcribed, in the language of the chat. Your coaching (the Replay) is written in that language too.
  • We save the language of each conversation (the language you chose) with the chat record, so the transcript and coaching match it.
  • The same providers, retention periods and controls described on this page apply whatever language you use.

Your microphone

The app requests microphone access when you start your first session. iOS will prompt you to grant or deny it. You can change this at any time:

iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Flirt Mode

Revoking microphone access stops voice sessions from working. The rest of the app (browsing scenarios, managing purchases) continues to function.

What we do with usage data

Separately from session audio, we collect usage data — which characters you called, session duration, and in-app events — linked to your anonymous account ID (no name, email, or phone number). This does not include audio, transcripts, or anything you said. You can turn it off anytime in Settings → Share Usage Stats. It's used to understand how the app is being used and to fix things that are broken. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
